An elegant, special occasion Mezcal by Arturo Lomeli, the founder of Clase Azul Distillery NOM-D291G in Durango, Mexico made with 100% Maguey / Cenizo Agave. Cenizo Agaves take 12 to 15 years to reach maturity. Once harvested, the agave hearts are slow roasted for 3 days in volcanic stone before natural fermentation under red oak. This is a Joven Mezcal, double-distilled in alembic copper stills, brought to proof with natural spring mineral-water. It has an aromatic birth with notes of herbs & hay; while an elegant life adds notes of raw peanuts, smoke, ripe apples, red oak, vanilla, caramel & agave; that led to a long & delicate death with notes of toasted oak & grass. Dashes of vanilla begin that later translate to some roasted agave, mild minerality, mild smoke, a bit of lactic notes similar to cupreata but more subdued. The finish has some of that lactic note, smoke and minerality and is medium length. This mezcal wasnt too mind blowing, although im not familar with the flavours of agave durangensis. clase azul is not a go to, but glad to have a taste of this agave species. im sure bozals is just as good with a reasonable pricepoint.
Trying this thank you to my friend Adam for bringing this bottle over. Omg this is heaven… if heaven was real. Vanilla and smoke on the nose and Smokey deliciousness on the palate. It’s always hard rating when my friends are here. I tried on a large cube of ice, must try neat too
Mezcal for the (wealthy) masses. Almost sour tomato on the nose. Medium smoke. It's good but not worth what they're asking.
Nice burn going down. Very smooth with a bbq burnt flavor on the backend
Phenomenal Mezcal, rich agave aromas with a scotch-like smokiness
