About this bottle

Código 1530 tequilas are produced in an Amatitán distillery by a family that has been distilling for generations using centuries-old artisan techniques. Nose - white and black pepper, tomato, stewed agave, strong minerality, herbal and vegetal notes, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, yeast, subtle nuttiness, moderate ethanol burn. Taste - sweet cooked agave, rich vanilla, caramel, pepper, savory vegetal earthiness, nutmeg, mild citrus notes, yeast, clove, sugar syrup, mild to moderate alcohol bite, finishing medium length with syrupy vanilla, sweet cooked agave, and baking spice flavors. This is an interesting one. For a supposedly additive free tequila, I picked up on strong vanilla and caramel notes that I wouldn’t expect to be present in a blanco. On the nose, I get a tomato vibe similar to Siete Leguas, but not quite as acidic and bile like. The mouthfeel is much thicker than most tequilas I’ve tried as well. Overall, this is quite nice. Probably one step above Olmeca Altos and about on par with Siete Leguas for me. The price is slightly high for what you get, but not outrageous.

Unlike any tequila I’ve had thus far. Agave on the nose with tomato and basil (no, really, it smells like pizza sauce to me), notes of pepper. Very herbal on the palate, with agave taking second place and pepper not far behind. Reminds me of gin with how herbal it is. The herbal flavors carry through to the lingering finish, with just the slightest peppery notes. Super interesting, took me forever to figure out what I was smelling and tasting. Altogether a good tequila, certainly holds its own for the price. I’d buy it again. Now I think I’ll go buy a pizza.

Codigo 1530 Blanco preserves an excellent presence of cooked and raw agave. It provides aromas of orange, pineapple, guava, mint, and lavender. It's definitely fruity and herbal. On the palate we recognize a more peppery and mineral presence which makes it a bit more rough. Still some of the fruity and herbal components pull through with flashes of guava and roasted agave along with minty finishes. This tequila delivers a creamy texture but wouldn't be a choice sipping tequila.

Initially has aromas of mint and citrus, with the citrus dominating after some air. Vegetal agave on the palate, with a bit of mint and pepper on the finish. For similar notes to El Tesoro, but this is somewhat cleaner. Pretty unremarkable, but a perfectly serviceable blanco depending on the circumstances.
