So full disclosure, I loved the blenders mash for what it was and the price. So I'm kinda I guess a bit of a fan of these aged crowns. nose - sweetness comes right out of the glass. This really nice balanced sweet rye, spicy and menthol and then just well made sweetness. This one is giving me some vanilla and caramel, far more than I generally get on a rye, but I get all that rye spice up front. There's even some sweet cereal notes and hints of cloves. Taste - The taste is a bit more spice driven with all that classic rye spice you expect and then the sweetness is pleasant but it doesn't shift the balance from the spice, it just provides a nice platform to prevent spice over powering the experience. Anise and cloves and cinnamon, light mint, and an even so light touch of barrel just barely on the finish. Deep vanilla notes and some light fruits on the malt side. This is surprisingly a nice easy drinker with the complexity and depth I'm looking for. To be honest put this at CS and I think you've got a better rye than Kentucky Owl. At 80 bucks, I kinda feel you're better off putting your money towards a better bottle down the road but I'm not upset with this either. 2.25 score from me. I'm not a rye guy but I'm fully in on this has a good tasty dram that's just a bit too thin to score higher.

Gonna start this one off with the experience, the unboxing. The tube/box isn’t cardboard, it’s something, feels like velvet, satin purple, gold embossed lettering, nice. The Crown purple bag’s gold tassels are looped over the bottle, showing the cork top. The bottle is heavy, with cut glass diamonds around the bottom. 20/20 for the esthetics. The smell is refined, it isn’t spiky or unpleasant: mint, caraway seed, rye, fresh dill, also strawberries, and crisp pears. 18/20 The first sip is warning, tingly, and mouth coating. There is rye spice, the dill, caraway, and allspice, some fruity impressions, makes me want another taste. 27/30 Well rounded, nothing is too overwhelming, it is really sweet, and a little thin in texture, though not lacking flavor. This is definitely a rye whisky, but it is a Crown Royal whisky too, sweet and friendly. I really like it, but will need more tastes over time. 21/25 Plus 4/5 of my reserved/subjective points Total: 90/100
Cown Royal Noble Collection Rye (16 year) The 2020 release of the noble collection, this being a 16 year old rye. 45% abv, possible bottled in Canada. Aged in charred white oak, 90% rye. Aroma: bourbon like, rye, spicy, cork smells of fennel seeds/rye bread. Taste: medium body, moderate spice (neat), more subdued on the rocks, very light sweetness, over time it becomes more fruity, a lot of charred oak flavor. This is a solid offering from crown Royal. I was expecting this rye to be a little bolder/complex but without any expectations it is still a very solid/good whisky especially if you can find it around 70. Cost: around 65 to 75 plus tax from my recollection Grade: B+
Expected more from a 16 yr old rye. It was light all the around on the nose, palate, and finish. Nice dark amber color showing it’s age in the charred oak barrel. More sweet vanilla on the nose than palate. The spice started strong but the intensity faded pretty quickly followed by char on the back palate. Not a lot of complexity as far as other flavor notes showing up to play. There’s a weird aftertaste left on the tongue. Not sure what it is. More flavors may show up with a few drops of water or over ice.
Nice rye. Nose: Spearmint, Vanilla, Maple Syrup, Cherries, Honey, Anise, Grass, Baking Spices, Lavender, Dill, Cloves, Cinnamon, Banana Laffy Taffys Palate: Vanilla, Cola, Walnuts, Maple Syrup, Bananas, Baking Spices, Cherries, Walnuts, Cinnamon, Cashews, Cloves, Caramel, Cotton Candy Finish: Vanilla, Cloves, Pepper, Baking Spices, Cola, Spearmint, Walnuts, Red Apples, Green Apples
So many moons later I’ve come back to this. I remember it being good. Well it’s better than I remember. Nose: vanilla, Carmel, brown sugar, a bit of ethanol. Palate: all spice, vanilla and Carmel sweetness. A bit of orange zest. It’s damn tasty. Finish: rye spices that linger a bit. Overall: it’s a really good pour in beautiful packaging. Seriously that bottle is class
