On a xmas roadtrip at the top of the South Island of NZ I popped into the Dancing Sands Distillery in Takaka near we were staying. We visited the springs themselves which were stunningly clear. As they are sacred to the local Maori no one is allowed to swim in them but no problem making spirits it seems! I haven't bought a bottle of vodka in 20 years I reckon but this stuff was very nice so after tasting 10 or so of their spirits I bought this one along with a saffron gin. Takaka is the quintessential hippie town with a lot of dreadlocks and no shoes and the current owner of the distillery from Israel came here loved the place and bought the distillery 4 years ago. They have done well as their product is very nicely done.
