The nose was primarily caramel, some vanilla but that’s a component of caramel so … Palate was a mix, sherry, lemon, caramel, creme brule. Very smooth. Finish was medium long with lemon again, sherry and some sweet spicyness on the side of the tongue, not just alcohol burn. Quite interesting.
About this bottle
Darkness hints to the color of this series of Scotch single malt releases from Atom Brands, tied together by maturation in sherry casks. Many single casks have been released previously under this label, but Darkness 8 Year is an ongoing release from an undisclosed distillery. After an initial maturation in ex-bourbon barrels, this single malt was finished in small oloroso octave casks for at least 3 months.

Nose: sherry, butterscotch, caramel, orange, citrus, baking spice, creamy Palate: vanilla, raisin, toffee, pear, dark cherry, very slight oak, slight salt, slightly metallic Finish: very short, slight wood, dark cherry
On the nose, cherry, sugar, orange peel and a hint of chocolate. Tastes of sultanas, oak, amaretto, dates and chocolate. Lightly smoked on the finish with more of the chocolate flavour.
Amazing nose! Rich sweet vanilla. Nice oily mouthfeel. Big depth of flavors. Mainly sweet, caramel, chocolate etc. switching to a strong finish. Good lasting finish.
Nose has a strong and sweet candy smell--maybe caramel? Long, harsh alcohol burn on the finish, though. Wouldn't get this one again. 2019 Advent calendar, Day 10
