About this bottle

Fettercairn was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay and named for the village in which it resides. Rarely bottled as a single malt, owners Whyte & Mackay released four marques in summer 2018 including this bottling. Aged for 12 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels. A unicorn (the Ramsay clan seal) with a copper ring adorns the bottle. The latter refers to the unique cooling ring Fettercairn introduced in the 1950s. Water drenches the stills, cooling the copper and increasing condensation so only the lighter vapors rise.

Nose - Ripe apples, honey, hint of orange, golden raisins Taste - Honey, golden raisins, dried apples, candied ginger spice/tingle/heat, light salt Finish - Very nice lingering ginger warmth, sweet honeyed golden raisins, filtered apple juice sweetness, light hint of graphite Score - 86/100 Final Thoughts - This had a very pleasant nose, not too complex but very well put together. Nice balance on the palate as well in that there was nothing off-putting, simple flavors but they all played well with each other. This felt like mostly if not entirely ex-bourbon aged but not much caramel/vanilla but more of a highlighted fruity malt. Nice finish too although there's a slight graphite-like finish that's a tiny bit unpleasant but it's subtle. This was quite a nice dram and honestly drank like it was more of a 43/46% ABV dram versus a 40%. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - Yes Would I buy a bottle? - Yes

My first Fettercairn was this expression, and i think it is an easy going dram, maybe for an everyday whisky, but nothing to die for or remember for a long time. This is not the one you recommend to friends eventhough it is not bad at all. Bottled at 40%abv On the nose it is very fruity, some tropical fruits coming on the nose, Pineapple. I also got Figs and Peach. On the palate, very easy to drink, with the same profile as the nose: pineapple, a very noticeable Winey note, Grape and Peach. It it feels like it has been matured in white wine casks because of the flavor profile. Aftertaste is very clean, easy finish, with mostly grape flavor. Overall this is a normal whisky, very straightforward, but you can enjoy it easily and that is good in my books. My score: 72 over 100.

Nose: light, fresh, vanilla, lemon, cream pie. Palate: coffee chocolate, coffee, cappuccino, very oily, with spicy spices. Medium-long finish with a kneaded mouth of coffee cheesecake. A valid product, particularly in its coffee aroma. Rating 4.00 _______________________________________________ Naso: leggero, fresco, vaniglia, limone, torta alla crema. Palato: cioccolato al caffè, caffe, cappuccino, molto oleoso, con spezie piccanti. Finale medio-lungo con bocca impastata di cheese cake al caffè. Un prodotto valido, particolare nel suo aroma al caffè. Voto 4,00

Nose: Peach, mango, pineapple and other tropical fruit salad aromas. Vanilla underpins everything like a master of ceremonies. Palate: Creamy texture. Mango predominantly with a touch of pink peppercorn. Finish: The pepper gets louder and crescendos leaving behind the sweet fruity flavours of caramelised pineapple and fresh mango. Notes: Ok so it might be chill filtered and artificially coloured but come on it's a fruit salad in a glass. I like that it's approachable and super easy to drink. Closest thing to a New England IPA I've tried.

Nose: There's not much to report on the nose. Floral, toffee, menthol - all very light notes Palate: Orange, ginger/spicy, green, herbal, vanilla, peach Finish: Medium long finish. Fruity, spicy, coffee, milk chocolate, menthol. Slightly darker spiciness on the aftertaste. A light, easy drinking, fruity dram. Darker and spicier on the finish. There's a menthol note that builds as you drink it. Generally OK.

The nose is caramelized sugar on a fresh pear slice topped with vanilla ice cream sprinkled with cinnamon. Its delightful to nose. The palate is like taking a bite out of that pear slice. With a little milk chocolate. The finish is peppery and lingers with cream and sugar. A yummy dram.
