Wow was this rum bad. I bought it for the bottle, I admit. But as someone who owns a tiki bar and has sampled more than my fair share of rums (my current favorite for sipping, El Dorado 21 yr), I would say the tasting notes are closer to Everclear than they are to caramel or cocoa. It tasted like a neutral spirit with a bit of sugar. Perhaps I can use this as a mixer, but honestly, I have tasted better rums used in "well drinks." The bottle is cool though.
About this bottle
Produced in Veracruz, Mexico this rum is produced by fermenting and distilling fresh sugarcane juice. It is then aged six years in European oak and rested for an undisclosed time period in former wine casks and used bourbon barrels. The bottle is encased in a plastic shell with the unique Tsanta (shrunken head) design.

First, my sense of smell is very weak. On the nose, all I get is vanilla & caramel. On the palate, oak and s Bourbon bite. Which is great if you're drinking Bourbon. The finish to me is more like a Bourbon. I really wanted to like this one more, because the owners are friends. A 2-star mixing rum.
It has strong punch the first sip. But smooths out with coffee, allspice chocolate, and nutmeg flavors. But goes down smooth.
I really like this one. It’s unique, with some very different spices going on. The bottle looks badass on your bar too!
I’ll be honest, I got it for the bottle. The rum was marginally drinkable in mixed drinks.
I taste more caramel and spice than hogo, but really smooth and tasty rum.
