Lots of vanilla sweetness, along with some peppery spice from the grains. Not much bitterness from the barrel, despite the strong vanilla influence. Also, despite it being a very young spirit (they told me at the distillery it ages for 9 months in quarter casks), it doesn't have the spikiness typical of other young spirits. I can't wait to have a chance to try it again.
About this bottle
DEVINE is a grain-to-glass distillery which uses grains sourced in British Columbia for its whiskies. Ancient Grains is its "alternative whisky" as it uses spelt, emmer, khorasan, and einkorn in addition to barley. Aged in new American oak quarter casks and bottled at 90 proof. Please note: Although this is made in Canada, it is not labeled Canadian whisky as Ancient Grains is aged under 3 years.

Spicy grain aroma, hard to place. Vanilla caramel sweetness, but spice the dominant flavor. Cinnamon mostly, rye and oak. Medium body but the rye spice tail lingers well.
Quite nice for such a young drink, a bit bright and spiky though. Hints of cereals and spice.
Candied fruit, nuts, spicy notes, slight smoke and oak notes. Very smooth.
Has a sweetness but i like it
