Finally opened my bottle after almost a year in queue. On the nose I get sweet chocolate and sherry, lovely color. The palate is smooth and sweet, with a little lingering heat on the back end. The Sherry influence is good, not overpowering. A nice sipping treat from Don Q for an affordable price. I got my bottle at the PR Airport during a special, two for $80 or so.
This is really nice stuff! If you were blind tasting you might not even call this out as a rum. Nose is slightly sweet with the sherry finish. Taste is smooth butter and caramel with a very slight burn to close. This one and Penny Blue may make me drink more rum!
I'm a bourbon guy but my liquor store associate raves on this stuff so I bit. I'm glad I did. Love the mild sherry finish mixed with the right amount of spice. Never thought I'd see myself sipping rum but this might open up a whole new hobby.
