About this bottle

El Jolgorio Pechuga mezcal is produced from Espadin agave harvested at ten years of age. The agaves are pit-roasted, crushed by tahona, open fermented, and double-distilled by mezcaleros Valentín Cortes and Gregorio Martinez Jarquin in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca. Various fruits and the breast of a turkey rooster are also put into the still.

I have been a few days in oaxaca city and of course had to taste through a lot of mezcals. From about 25 tasted there and at least 10 more on my travel through mexico, this one was still my favourite when it comes to a mezcal that doesn't taste extremely unexpected or unusual (like some tepeztate mezcals for example). I was surprised how harmonic yet complex this spirit was without anything that would distract you from enjoying every sip.

My first Pechuga. I have been wanting to try this special mezcal variety for some time, and I think this one may have ruined me for all others. Lovely spicy sweet aroma, with complex fruit sweet smoke on the pallet. Slight burn, leaving a long finish of almost earthy flavor. Love.

Not as oily as other pechugas ive had but still clings to the mouth. Very upfront wierd flavors with some herbal. Its a bit dry with a long finish

Sample with Espinosa: Straight up smoked paprika. Dry as hell. I've truly never had anything like this.

One of my favorite pechuga’s. Great flavor, super smooth, very bright. Minty and slightly briny.
