Nose: Sweet, heavy oak nose, pang of ethanol, syrupy sweet agave. Taste: Thin mouth feel, not a lot going on. No heat. Agave, light smoke, faint oak, pepper. Finish: Short, a bit hot, loaded with pepper, faint smoke, some sweet cream and berry and then it's gone. Overall: This is interesting but not exceptional. I don't really pick up much on the barrel influence, and there wasn't a ton going on in the first place. Thanks for reading! Rank: 4
About this bottle
Excellia is the handiwork of master tequila producer Carlos Camarena and EWG Spirits & Wine founder Jean-Sébastien Robicquet, who set out to create tequilas that marry Mexican and French traditions of spirit production with unique aging techniques. Excellia Tequila Añejo is aged 18 months in a combination of former cognac and grand cru sauternes barrels, using agave that is 8 - 10 years old when harvested.

Very good stuff with notes of apricot, citrus, pepper, barrel spices, cooked agave, and a little chocolate. Didn’t notice much of a difference in Cognac/Sauternes casks and don’t think this is on Tapatio/el Tesoro/Ocho level.
