Had this in a tasting flight alongside Siembra Azul Blanco and Fortaleza Reposado winter blend. Amazing stuff like any other Fuenteseca. Has notes of Vanilla, Chocolate, Berries, Cooked Agave, Mint, Cinnamon, Anise, Maple, Marshmallow, Rye Spice, oak, cloves, flowers, apple, cherries, and herbs. Having tried the blanco, 8 year, 12 year, 15 year, and this, I rank them as 12,18,15,8,blanco. Just need to try the 21, my toughest tequila challenge yet.
About this bottle
The Fuenteseca 18 year expression is a blend of tequila distilled in copper double-column stills (75%) and copper alembic stills (25%). The spirit was initially aged for six years in Canadian white oak casks previously used for Canadian rye whiskey at an elevation of 4,600' in Atotonilco el Alto. The tequila was then extracted, blended, and re-barreled, with some going into Canadian white oak (47%) and the rest into European oak barrels previously used to age California red wine (53%). The barrels were moved to the cooler climate of El Chapingo for twelve more years of aging. The tequila is bottled at 43.5% ABV.
