About this bottle

This 2024 limited edition bourbon release is named after one of the great rivers of the Lone Star State. Master Distiller Donnis Todd and his team begin with their flagship Texas straight bourbon made with Texas-grown grains (corn, soft red winter wheat, and barley). They then finish the bourbon in tawny port barrels for an additional two years. Bottled at 107 proof, there were a total of 10,500 bottles made and 1,000 of those bottles will be released at the distillery on launch day February 3, 2024. The remaining bottles will be distributed nationally in February 2023. (SRP $149.99)

After a tasting tour at Garrison Brothers, I was very surprised with the quality of their Bourbon. All of their whiskys are very good! But this one finished at a Port cask is incredible! The 2024 release delivered 10500 bottles and mine is #4289. It come with a dark amber color, very thick legs in a full body and 107 proof. On the nose, we immediately get toffee, caramel, milk chocolate and a hint of cherry. The palate brings more of the wheat and malted barley to play with a french toast feeling bringing a bread toast mixed with caramel and clove together. The caramel and toffee overpowers a little. In the end, there’s a cinnamon and nutmeg finish, so the spices kick in. Very complex, delicious and very rich! Worth every penny!

AnttiRG 4.0

An outstanding, Wheated Bourbon Whiskey by Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye, Texas crafted by with their Small Batch Bourbon aged for a minimum of 4 years in American white oak barrels then finished for an additional 2 to 4 years in port casks; before being bottled at 107 proof. It has an aromatic birth with notes of grain, wood, fruits, nuts, herbs & spices; while a rich & creamy life adds notes of strawberry preserve on a warm butter biscuit, lavender honey, caramel, raspberry & plum; while a long & hot death adds notes of oak, cinnamon, chocolate & toasted coffee beans.
