Giant Single Barrel Straight Rye 100 Proof

A bold, Rye Whiskey by Gulf Coast Distillers guided by David Pickerell in Houston, Texas; combining Elbon & Brassetto Rye; distilled in pot stills & aged in #4 char American oak barrels. It has an aromatic birth of fruits, grain, nuts, wood & spice; while a bold life adds notes of apricot, honey, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, cinnamon & allspice; that led to a long & spicy death with notes of rye, pepper, oak, almonds, tobacco & leather. Giant Straight Rye Whiskey offers exotic aromas of toffee, dark chocolate, dark German pumpernickel rye bread, and oak. The entry is creamy with notes of dried apricot and leather. The finish is reminiscent of sourdough rye, leather, and dried apricot. Leather and dried apricots dominates . It is not good straight or mixed.

Sweet, peppery nose, some vegetal notes Caramel, dark sugar, strong vegetal note that I like from many Texas whiskies. Finish: hot, more Texas vegetal Overall, great Texas Rye at a good price. Lighter in color and flavor than Balcones Rye but the same flavor profile.

Nice flavors in this Rye. Notes of fruit, Carmel, and slight vanilla. Happy with this one.
