GlenAllachie 11 Year Port Wood Finish

Open Date = 12-1-2020 Tasting Date = 7-1-2021 Weeks open = 8 months Tasting proof = 86 Bottle Fill Level =60% Has strong alcohol burn of a young whisky. I'm not tasting that much cask influence. I was hoping to love this one but unfortunately its over hyped and just not that memorable as the quality is fairly low but the bottle presentation looks quality but I will noy be buying any more young spirits from Billy Walker! The nose has some really nice perfumed berry and grape notes. Comes across creamy and very delicious. All of it is a bid faint though. You need a while to be able to grasp them. The palate is smooth and sweet. No alcohol noticeable. Goes down like warm buttery syrup. Then you get nice port oak as well with a not-too-sweet spiciness. Later some nice bitter nuts appear along some great spices. It becomes less sweet over time which is really interesting - that gives way to the wood and spice flavors. This really is above average whisky. Has a lot of character and for its age goes deep enough. The transition and palate development is impressive.

Have the 12 year version of this but assuming all else comparable. This is my second wine finished glenallachie and I have to say i think they know what they’re doing with these casks. Tastes luxurious, creamy, but without hiding the base malt. Price has been inching up on all of these re-casked and/or otherwise finished Glenallachie bottles and I can see why. I’d buy at $90-110 but otherwise consider getting the base 12 - around me it’s $40 cheaper. This is a very small upgrade to that IMO.

Nose: Fruits, Cherry, dark fruits. It smells like a bit like sugary wine. Palate: Spicy, "rond en bouche, deep, dark fruits, strawberries, banana, red wine, spicy fruits. It's good! It's not a light Whiskey. Better than the 10 CS. Less spicy than the 12.
