A whole lot of cocoa on the nose, which is singularly surprising. Just under this, there are dark stone fruits like black cherry, as well as blackberry and even a hint of strawberry. On the tongue, the fruitiness continues, with a warming sweetness and an almost dessert-like spectre. The body is medium, with a lot going on in the middle of the palate, along with incredibly high notes at the back of the tongue. The wood comes through after a minute and seems slightly bitter, but offsets the sweetness originally noted. The finish is shorter than expected, and ends on a woody, dry note. Definitely a unique expression.
About this bottle
This Glengoyne 15 Year is an update to a previous 15 Year single malt expression and it's a core expression in its portfolio. Glengoyne which translates to 'Glen of the Wild Geese,' has uniquely-shaped stills that results in a long distillation. As a result, this creates a light and fruity signature spirit. Here, the new make whisky is matured in first-fill bourbon (20%), first-fill sherry (25%) and refill casks (55%). Following a UK launch in fall 2022, Glengoyne 15 Year was released in the US in April 2023. (SRP $129.99)

A balanced, Single Malt Whiskey from Highlands, Scotland crafted with air-dried malted barley. aged 15 years in first-fill European sherry and American bourbon casks bottled at 43% ABV. It has a delicate birth with notes of grains, wood, tree & dried fruits, nuts, herbs & spices; while a slightly oily life added notes of oatmeal, toffee popcorn, butterscotch, lemon curd, roasted walnuts, pineapple & apple pie; that led to a long fresh death with a touch of oak, salted butter, allspice, vanilla & honey.
On the nose, strong sweetness, with a slight spicy note at the back. Sweet aroma like Christmas candles, Christmas cake, very sweet orange with sugar and a subtle sherry influence with the sweet range. On the palate, there is an indefinite fresh sweetness - vanilla, flowers, sweet almonds. The finoche is sweet and nutty. THE Christmas dram in my opinion.
This is the best-tasting whiskey I've ever had. Delicious, sweet, with an obvious overtone of honey and nectar, and a unique finish that trends toward tropical fruit, such as dried apricot. A surprise for most people that I've shared it with, since it is less well-known, and everyone has loved it.
Smooth subtle satisfying. Perfect dram in front of a fire to shate with others and ponder the meaning of ???
Rich nose of charcoal and smoke, red apples, anise. Rich caramel, lots of vanilla. Smooth after taste.
