2024 release. 123.2 proof. Interesting nose of caramel chew candy, spun sugar, cedar wood, toffee, blackberry, and toasted marshmallow. Ethanol nicely low. Palate offers some rich caramel, toasted oak, black cherry, cocoa powder, and baking spices. Flavors suitably punchy. Finish takes a very sharp turn into a forceful spice bloom that pushes this into “unbalanced” territory with cinnamon, white pepper, chili powder, dry, bitter oak, and clove in large proportions. It’s very long, but you kind of wish it were shorter. I think the youth shows pretty hard here. Mouthfeel is full bodied, but with a grainy element that became increasing annoying over time when mixed with the super spicy notes. A promising start with some nice traditional notes which eventually became derailed by a truly disappointing finish. Just too young and too unrefined for me, and it probably could really use a couple of more years of maturation. At $79.99, there’s no way I would ever buy this again. In fact, I have fallen for several High N Wicked releases, and I don’t think any of them have been a rebuy. Time to abandon this brand.
