This Cognac is too hot at 64.3%, the attack a pure ethanol blast. Orange zest and chocolate appear like echoes of something lost. 2/5 With dilution, it transforms. The alcohol carries zesty orange, chewy chocolate, roasted coffee, and nuts into a rich leather-and-rancio finish. Reminiscent of PM’s best Armagnacs. 5/5.

About this bottle
Master Distiller Pierre Goursat Gourry runs his family's Cognac estate and does everything himself. It is a blend of ugni blanc, folle blanche, and colombard--all harvested, vinified, and distilled together. It is distilled to 71% abv and placed in a used 250L Limousin oak cask. No additives were used and this is unfiltered. Most importantly, this is bottled at cask strength of 64.3% ABV, quite an unusual thing for Cognac. Only 330 bottles were produced.
