This is the first Anejo tequila that I've tried so I'm just rating this based on how much I'm enjoying it. Which is a lot. The nose is a spicy tequlia creme brulee. Starts sweet on the palate, but gets more savory as the flavours develop. The mouthfeel is buttery smooth. Caramel notes to begin, with the agave ever present. Morphs into spices like clove, allspice and black pepper. The finish is lengthy and warm. More sweetness and a bit of jalapeno. I could easily drink a whole bottle of this in one sitting if I were an idiot gringo. Well actually I am, so I probably will.
About this bottle
This añejo tequila from Gran Centenario is a 100% blue agave and aged in new French Limousin oak barrels up to 36 months. It is unusual to see this type of oak used for tequila production and is more typically found used to age Cognac. The agaves used were sourced from Los Altos in Jalisco.

An overall enjoyable and approachable tequila for the those just begining to explore Añejo tequilas. For the more experienced tequila lovers out there, it's a step away from what you may be expecting. The complexity arrives more in the nose than on the pallette, with the earthy cooked agave tones and sweet coatings of caramel and a hint of cinnamon/mixed spice. The pallette was unchallenging, and personally sets itself as a classic middle-of-the-road Añejo - umami, roasted agave, some butterscotch and smooth albeit not as smooth as other Añejos in its competitive category.
Neat. Pleasant nose of fruity agave, oak, herbs, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is agave, cedar, vanilla, cocoa, oranges, anise, allspice, just a little heat. Finish is long,..cocoa, saccharine, oak tannin Maybe the pinnacle of the line from the people that bring you Cuervo Gold. About as good as it gets for añejo at this price point
This was my first experience sipping tequila añejo. This one is a beautiful amber liquid with a rich, inviting aroma. Pleasantly mild and drinkable, it's simultaneously smoky and refreshing, with a bit of lingering fruity sweetness. I'd recommend this if you're new to the spirit!
Creamy, slightly oily taste and texture that mutes the otherwise good flavour of sweet vegetal agave, gentle pepper spice and bright fresh oak. Not nearly as unique and interesting as the Reposado. I can see how it's the brand's lowest rated offering. Not available in Ontario.
This Añejo smells like Mexico! It has a wonderful nose with caramel and toasted oak. The taste is complex with chocolate, toasted nuts, sweet caramel, and leaves a tingling sensation on the edges of your tongue. Easily a classic for a premium sipping tequila
