Nose - Juicy raisins, dark apple juice, goji berries Taste - Slightly savory/meaty sweet, bold raisins, gentle heat/tingle, goji berries, acai, almost sweet soy sauce Finish - Light metallic, sweet savory vibe, reduced mirin & soy, dark raisins Score - 87/100 Final Thoughts - I was initially a bit disappointed in the lowish proof of 42% and not sure if this lower proof affects the nose, but it doesn't really present very much. The nose is mostly sweet, slightly savory, but there's not much past this sweet vibe. Once it hits your palate though, the shock value is there in that there's quite a bit of flavor for the lower proof. It's quite intense of this mostly sweet, lightly savory, tiny bit metallic/medicinal vibe to it. It's tasty, but also feels slightly off balance with the occasional metallic vibes coming off this. About this bottle
Hakata Whisky is distilled and matured at the Hikari Distillery (est. 1912) in Fukuoka, Japan. The whisky is made with 100% barley, part of which is fermented with koji, a type of mold typically used in shochu production. Sherry casks were used for maturation with the barrels housed in traditional-style warehouse. However, a few casks were matured in open-air warehouses with temperatures fluctuating from 95°F in the summer and 38°F in the winter. Hakata 10 Year is available in the US as of February 2023. Nose- Fruity AND floral Body- Starts a little flat but then comes alive: plum, honey, and an almost tropical citrus… apricot? Finish- This is where it shines. Plum and honey. I like this a lot. It wtarts off a little flat but then becomes very interesting.
Nose- bright and fruity Body- pit fruit and sugar tiving way to black pepper Finish- short and clean with plum and black peopet notes
Cherry, Plum, and Sherry in abundance. Fun and a far cry from Islay alternatives. Great for evening sipping in the Islands.
