About this bottle

The third release in Whistlepig's Legends Series was made from barrels of high-rye whiskey selected by Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake drivers. Unusually, the barrels underwent wind tunnel trials at the team's wind tunnel in Switzerland before enduring varying levels of G-Forces at the Whistlepig Farm & Distillery in Vermont. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu — the first Chinese F1 driver — the whiskey was also finished in lychee and oolong tea barrels. Available to purchase on Whistlepig's website beginning September 13, 2023 and in select US retailers. (SRP $49.99)

The nose starts immediately with a unique sweet fruit, that quickly gets more and more intense. The lychee influence is immediately noticeable, as the tea barrel finish gives it a wonderful balance. The nose is absolutely remarkable as the two major influences pretty much dial out what you would expect traditionally from a whiskey. There are notes of oak, vanilla in a hint of floral spice, and you could spend all day trying to analyze the flavor profile but once you realize that there is a indeed a lychee and tea influence, it becomes very clear what it is you're about to experience. The pallet is incredibly gentle, the tea comes through strongly but not overpowering, which serves to keep the sweetness of the lychee wonderfully and balance. It is almost like a gummy candy - Sweet but not too much, but just enough that makes you want more. The traditional whiskey notes fall more into the background as minor supporting qualities, as there is oak, vanilla and a touch of spice, but it is remarkably reserved. The finish is medium long with a lingering lychee sweetness, as tea adds a balance of bitterness to the finish to keep it all in balance and to keep it very desireable. There are touches of oak that fade in the background, but overall this is so unique that it is difficult to believe that this is even a whiskey to begin with. Exceptionally easy to drink, a flavor profile that you will be hard to ever come across again, very memorable.

Nose: strong lychee mostly overpowers everything else. Licorice and black tea are subtle but present. Palate: lychee and iced sweet tea. Fruity, sweet. Very subtle rye notes. Finish: cinnamon. Lychee. Thin. Id call this a flavored whiskey, not super great neat, but this could make a killer whiskey highball or tea focused cocktail.

Nose: super sweet and fruity, not a typical whiskey nose. Palette: very lychee forward. Sweet feuit that fades and well balanced with black tea finish, which adds a tannic end. Low ranking whiskey but super fun to drink!
