No, this isn't some whiskey marketed for millennials. OMG stands for Old MononGahela - a rye named for the river in western Pennsylvania (it's actually a bastardization of the Native American word Mechmenawungihilla, which means "falling banks"). It's an area that was not only the site of the 1794 Whiskey Rebellion, but the one considered at the forefront of whiskey production in the 1800s from the local rye, until various events all but wiped out production into the 20th century. High West has brought back that strain of rye, and this is our unaged entry into it, using 80%rye and 20% malted rye, while other batches are aged in barrels for future releases.

My first white whiskey. It's really interesting to taste unaged rye. It's light and crisp. It obviously lacks the caramelization it would gain from aging. The taste isn't all bad. It tastes like what it is, fermented raw grain. It's the high ABV that kills it. It's a more subtle taste profile that's completely overpowered by raw alcohol. Not available in Ontario.
Eye-opening pleasant surprise! Mostly oats and a little barley blend. Smooth like silk going down but with a hint of Cheerios. Seriously. Weird, huh? A little off the beaten path for me but worth the diversion from all the brown whiskies.
Just got done making a manhattan with cocchi di torino, with this one, really impressed. I love the juiciness im getting with it. Still think my woodford rye is superior, but this is an enjoyable rye nonetheless
Horrible stuff both in smell and taste. Not straight, not with water and not as a cocktail. Had a few shots and poured the rest down the drain. Most disappointing bottle I've ever tasted. Where's my refund!
Well High West, our love affair has finally reached its zenith. I don't know what I just drank, but it shouldn't be bottled. Rye Guy...sad...
