These are barrel proof bottlings with the ABV for this collection of single barrels ranging from 68.7-74.15%.

JACK DANIEL’S COY HILL Barrel No.: 21-08151 139.3 Proof // 69.65% ABV Appearance: Dark ruby/brown hue. Incredibly thick legs. Love to hold this up to the light. Like the hue of holding black coffee up to the light in a clear glass. I will say that I held this next to a new bottle of the normal JDSBBP and there was little to no difference. I have heard note that it is “much darker” but I would not necessarily say so. It is dark, but not more than the regular barrel proof. Nose: Ethanol is there but really isnt punchy. Let is rest a few minutes. Charred oak is the most impressive characteristic of the nose. The oak notes also smells like if you could brûlée brown sugar on a plank of musty oak wood. Welch’s grape jelly rides out on the first waves of ethanol. Burried beneath is charred oak and burnt sugars. Very very faint nuttiness and cinnamon when you get brave enough to take bigger whiffs. Little to none of the typical JD banana notes. Taste: Woah. This. Is. Big. (Cue Michael Scott...) Huge flavor just rolls and expands across the palate on the way to the back of the throat. Rich, oily, viscous. It is “big”, but it isn’t “hot”. I have had much lower proof bourbons bring tears to my eyes, but this does not. Burnt sugars (cream brûlée crust, charred marshmallow, burnt brownie edges) dominate. Delicious delicious charred oak tannins slap the bass notes on this jam sesh from start to finish. There is something savory at work as well, like sweet teriyaki beef jerky strips. Maybe overripe banana as my mouth acclimates to what is happening. Finish: Longest finish I’ve ever experienced. ECBP B520 previously held first place for my favorite Kentucky Hug, but this “Tennessee Tackle” is as much or more enjoyable. Long finish. Charred oak, burnt sugars, milk chocolate/cocoa powder, cinnamon stick, and burnt bread finish. Maybe some more of the slight grape jelly notes I got on the nose on the retro nasal. Overall: This is an experience. This is like trying whiskey again for the first time. Personally, it reminds me of the first time I tried barrel proof bourbon. You dont “treat yourself” to this whiskey. It treats you. Everything in the nose and on the palate carry through on the finish. What I love about regular JDSBBP gold label is that it doesn’t get too fancy, but does what it does best with extraordinary power. This is more “different” than it is “better” than JDSBBP gold label. On that note, if you cant find CHHP go buy Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof. The Bourbon Judge on YouTube has my favorite comparison. JDSBBP is like Mike Tyson today, you see him on the street, are impressed, and may chance saying “hi”. Coy Hill is like Tyson in his prime with the little black shorts pacing the ring with that crazy look like he might just kill his opponent. Coy Hill High Proof is a phenomenal experience. Happy New Year! Coy to the World!

Neat. Sample. So so so so excited. The color of this thing is a ridiculous mahogany by the way. On the nose, it is so tightly wound. Everything feels compressed. Zero characteristics of a typical Jack. No banana fosters. Tree bark. Caramel apple. Elephant ears smothered in powdered sugar. Stewed fruits. I’m going to let this sit and open up. Usually I would try right away but I was told this needed air and forgot. But it actually feels like it needs air. 15 minutes later…. That was a torturous wait. Oh that worked. Nose is so sweet now. Lovely butterscotch note emerged. Elephant ear smothered in butterscotch and powder sugar. On the taste, oh that texture is something different. It’s ultra thick but weightless. So the roof of my mouth feels like there is thick syrup but my tongue feels light and fluffy. Probably numbness? So weird! Finish on this thing is nuts but I’ll try not to get ahead of myself. On the tongue, overwhelming butterscotch and cinnamon intenseness. Mid palate is extreme butterscotch that escalates until my toes curl. Finish is the elephant ears and it’s one of those elephant ears that oozes the oil it was fried in as you chew it. Then on the finish is a second wave of stewed fruits. And they go on for days. That was intense. Going back to mid palate there is more nuance than just butterscotch. Cinnamon, nutmeg, apple, clove. Now there is a coffee on the finish. Oh I got a banana appearance deep into the finish. This is all about the finish. I don’t want to take another sip because the flavors don’t stop. I just lean back and let it happen over and over and over. It’s morphing into a bread pudding with butterscotch. Just dessert after dessert after dessert. This is an experience.

Nose- Caramel, oak, vanilla, a hint of peach and fresh strawberries. The nose is vibrant and jumps from the glass. Amazingly the ethanol stays in the background for this high proof (138.1). Palate- Layers and layers of flavor here- banana, caramel, vanilla, caramel cream, strawberries, fresh peach skin all in an oak bucket Palate- Dangerous! The proof does not relate to the palate. Easily sippable right from the bottle. A bit of green banana, vanilla, peaches in a basket. Vanilla bean all layered in caramel drizzle. Then the spice comes in as if your grandma was making a from scratch sweet potato pie. Finish- Whoa......hold on here! I AM AT A LOSS FOR WORDS hahaha! Those who follow me know I am NEVER at a loss for words. Overall- If you continue to piss on JD because you remember how drunk you got on Old #7 during your college days, well, you just don't get it! This is a spectacular offering. Pull up a chair, sit down, light up a cigar and enjoy this one like I did. Why it isn't a five......there is one note on the entry that is a bit waxy. I am critical, but on any given night.......you need this bottle

I lucked out and found this one on the shelf a couple months ago. Called a friend and he bought one also. This particular bottle’s proof is at a staggering 143.3 proof🔥🔥. Since being able to get my hands on last years special release this one was high in my priority list and it did not disappoint. If you’ve tried the regular JDSBBP then you know what you’re in for already. So imagine that plus some extra heat. When I say this is one of the most complex fire breathing whiskeys I’m not kidding. It is soooo complex. The flavors shoot out one after another but the most prominent is the banana’s foster. The viscosity is unbelievable. I love this bottle and wish I could make it last forever. Unfortunately I can’t and I won’t be paying secondary either so my liver wins this situation I guess. If you get/got lucky and have a bottle of this you’re holding onto because you think it’s going to be worth a million dollars one day I suggest open it and enjoy it instead. It’s that good (not million dollar good, but it’s still great). The hype was real on this one. JD is putting out some great product. Backdated 2-10-22

JDSBSR Coy Hill High Proof - 139.5 proof Neat // Glencairn // Tasted Blind Nose: Dark red apples, dripping cherries, maple syrup, grape soda, sweet oak, caramelized sugars, bit of green banana, no alcohol burn whatsoever - wowza. Palate: Grape soda, caramelized sugar, cherry pie filling, sweet oak, banana pudding - complete with the mushy banana and vanilla wafer, and that familiar subtle oak spice that slowly builds throughout and punctuates the transition to the finish. Finish: Hot Tamales, grape soda, sweet chewing tobacco, vanilla bean, toasted brown sugar, mushy banana, cinnamon Altoid mints, Juicy Fruit gum. This one DRIPS, and I really struggle to find any flaws. The alcohol presence is next to nothing, leaving only the thick, rich, juicy sweet flavors to be experienced in their fullest. Not to be outdone, the spicy qualities tingle and tease throughout, and provide an excellent transition into the finish. This is an amazing, amazing dram. 95/100

The typical Jack Daniel’s banana flavor is present but more subdued compared to other special releases. Oak and maple take center stage here. There is definitely a warming sensation as a result of the proof but it is a pleasant sensation as if you were sitting by a campfire on a chilly evening. This is a much more pleasant experience than Stagg Junior batch 13 (128.4 proof) which is more of an I’M ON FIRE sensation despite being close to 11 proof points lower. I thought that the high proof of this release might just be a gimmick but this is actually an incredibly delicious whiskey. 139.1 Proof
