About this bottle

This 2023 limited edition Twice Barreled Heritage Barrel Rye begins with fully matured Jack Daniel's Tennessee Straight Rye (mash bill: 70% rye, 18% corn, 12% malted barley). It was charcoal mellowed prior to maturation which was done in new, charred American oak barrels for a minimum of 5 years. Then the rye was placed into a secondary barrel which was heavily-toasted and lightly charred for an additional 2 years. These Heritage Barrels were crafted at the Jack Daniel Cooperage. Available in limited quantities nationwide as of August 2023. (SRP $75-700ml)

A nice deep prune/fig note, then some caramels, dark chocolate, oakiness, char, mild wood smoke, dark cherry, dashes of brown sugar before some mild herbal notes, mild black pepper and standard rye spice kick in. The finish is effortless, long with a mildy dry, prune and spice notes. jack daniels continues to blow me away with their recent releases. Im not sure if ive simply been sleeping on them or if they really have been putting out quality product. JD ryes in particular have really grabbed my attention the most. it feels like an easier version of the single barrel barrel proof, which even at this point is killer. well done.

NOSE - Vanilla, sweet butter, light and beachy, some light caramel and dulce de leche. Light staleness like a cuban cracker. PALATE - Not harsh up front, little bit of bitter herb and butteriness. Some soft notes of cinnamon and vanilla. Some soft oak and and leather. Nothing popping out. FINISH - Bitter oak and herb with more of the soft soft vanilla that makes it buttery. Not a lot of flavor in the finish.

Open up after sitting for awhile. If I had this in a blind, the balance and smoothness (hate saying that), the words Jack Danials would have never crossed my mind. Nose is overly powerful but has notes you can get into, barrel char and caramel come forward, that carries though to the pallet. And there’s no pine! If I come across a bottle, I’m getting it.

Nose: soft, floral, caramel, vanilla, hint of rye and oak. Its a nice nose. Body: medium Palate: rye, caramel Finish: medium - long and smokey… yuuuuuuum Note: ounce from don. I really liked this. Rich, caramelly , rye is nice and long smokey finish. Yum yum yum.

Has a great flavor profile with notes of bananas, dark fruit, christmas cakes, molasses, mint, marshmallows, and dill but was held back by the lower proof, this one would be as good or better than barrel proof rye and coy hill if it was at cask strength.

Looneyhead 4.3

Nose of rye, vanilla, mint, oak, caramel, and cherry. Palate mint, vanilla, oak, rye, and cherry. Smooth finish, lingering, with mint and some spice.
