Nose: Buffalo trace signature smell plus a deep brown sugar gingerbread misting. Palate: cherry cola, charred marshmallows, rye spice, oak , rich baking spices. Mouth feel: full, round, thick and delicious. Finish: spicy and dry! but not too spicy.. you're able to hold the whiskey in your mouth to enjoy it for quite some time. The oak comes and goes but definitely lets you it's there. This is definitely an older Sazerac, it has many of the same flavor notes of baby saz but stands up on its as a beautiful older rendition of this fantastic flavor. some of the other vintages such as 2016 were hallow, disjointed and nothing reminiscent of the Sazerac rye i'm used to. It's Everything you want it to be — besides available.😢
About this bottle
This rye whiskey contains a mashbill of Minnesota rye, Kentucky corn, and North Dakota malted barley. Distilled to 135 proof in the spring of 1998, the rye whiskey entered the barrel at 125 proof. It matured for 18 years in new, charred American oak barrels on the second floor of Warehouse K. Only 25 barrels make up this batch. Note: this rye was placed in stainless-steel tanks in 2016 to prevent further aging. It is 90 proof at bottling.

2/14/18 Nose: Decaying earth and rich sugars. Baking spice. Palate: Baking spice and compost. Vanilla and faint pops of citrus.
Perfect balance if spice, oak, mellowed out over the time. Back end is mild spice but a very drying finish.
9/10. Outstanding. Same flavor profile as the Baby Saz, but just more in depth and magnified flavors.
Very good, but still too hot for me personally. 6/23/18 at Front Street Brewery flight.
Wel done but overly spice note. Didn’t find a mash with vanilla but more dry leather
