Lagavulin 8 was released in conjunction with the distillery's 200th anniversary in 2016. It's meant as a throwback to the style of whisky Lagavulin may have been producing around the 1880s. That's when author, Alfred Barnard, visited all the distilleries in Great Britain, over 150 of them, and came away with the opinion that Lagavulin was just one of a few putting out single malt worthy of drinking on its own, as opposed to being solely destined for a blend. As of November 2017, this is whisky is now a core bottling for the distillery instead of a limited edition with new labels to follow.

Burun: İlk koklamayla islay olduğunu hissettiren bir burun. Yoğun turba ve ilaçsı kokulara karamel, tuz eşlik ediyor. Genç bir viski olduğunu biraz hissettiriyor ama genel olarak burunda dengeli diyebilirim.
Damak: Yumuşak bir başlangıca sahip fakat hızla ısınıyor. Burunda olduğu gibi yoğun turba karakteri yoğun. Kül, tuzlu karamel yanık meşe hissediliyor. Vahşi bir viski.
Bitiş: Turbalı ve baharatlı orta uzunlukta bir bitiş.
Genel Yorum: Lagavulin 8’i vahşi ve ne yazık ki dengesiz bir viski. Damakta biraz dengesiz ve gövdesi düşük bir ekspresyon.%48 alkol özellikle damakta net hissediliyor.

Nose: lemon pith, rubber, brine, grapefruit sugar. Palate: smoked vegetable soup, ash, light vanilla sweetness, hint of lemon. This doesn’t have the depth of flavor of the 16, but the extra proof helps. I’m pretty sure I’d enjoy anything Lag puts out and this is no exception, although I’d probably rank this slightly below similarly priced Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10, and also below Port Charlotte 10.

Beautifully smokey nose with delicate floral notes lingering amidst the haze.
Campfire smoke and vanilla explode onto the palate with soft wood and spice notes along for the ride.
An absolute treat of a scotch and one I'm glad to have picked up.
These higher, 92+, proof, non-chill filtered peaty scotches are absolutely superb and Lagavulin 8 is no exception. A winner through and through!

Smells sweet, like toffee or pudding, which was unexpected. Flavor is the same sweetness, mild and medium rich. Tail is long despite the thinner body, and thats where the peat is. Low smouldering tail lasts quite a while, very enjoyable. One of those whiskeys that hits gently the crescendos, love the flavor balance.
