I had no idea the masters behind Legent released this unique cask version of their already solid regular bourbon. The flavors were a bit more pronounced here. An inviting aroma of honeyed fruit and cinnamon. Hint of char. The barreling came through nicely with the whole east meets west theme. Red fruits, vanilla, rye spice, corn grain, and red hot cinnamon candies made up the complex nature residing within this tasty brown fluid. Last but not least, the smoothness factor. This might just be me, but I could've sworn this went down as easy as their previous lower proof offering which is quite impressive! This turned out to be a lovely bday present from the wifey. I highly recommend this to those willing to spend the coin. It won't disappoint. At least in my humble opinion. π
About this bottle
The first limited edition expression of Legent begins as Kentucky bourbon aged for 8 years in Kentucky. Then it traveled to Japan where it was blended and finished at The House of Suntory's flagship Yamazaki Distillery. Chief Blender of Suntory Whisky Shinji Fukuyo took three parcels of the 8 year-old Kentucky bourbon and matured them in three different casks: Spanish oak sherry casks, French oak wine casks, and Spanish oak sherry casks that were used to age Yamazaki Japanese single malt whisky. Then he blended in more 8 year-old Kentucky bourbon. Bottled at 57% ABV, Legent Yamazaki Cask Finish Blend is available for a limited time at select locations in the US, Canada, Germany, and Global Travel Retail. (SRP $199.99)

Very smooth sipper. Layered flavors that are tough to identify. Long, pleasant, smooth finish. The finish is the best part about this whiskey. I donβt know if itβs the blending or the finishing in various casks but I think it smooths out the typical higher proof bourbon profile. I definitely agree with other reviews out there, that it drinks below itβs proof. This is one of those whiskeys to pour with friends and talk the night away. On the value side, I think itβs a bit overpriced but its definitely a worthy sip. It looks like a very good value when compared to the secondary prices of the BTAC collection which is what it should be compared to because of the uniqueness of the overall experience of drinking it.
Nose: Soft sweentess with a subtle note of honey and spices Palette: A pop of oak into a fruity sweetness, specifically strawberries Finish: A short finish with bitter oak, fruit, and a bit of cinnamon
Nose: very muted nose, a little vanilla sweetness and oak Taste: rich oaky red fruit that quickly transitions to a soft malt Finish: pretty short finish, a whisper of malt and cinnamon
Nose: moderate sweetness, pulling fruit/honey notes Taste: small punch of oak, with a strong berry flavor Finish: oakiness fades into a light red fruit/berries/spice
Overall heat at the first sip followed by a unique smoothness that carries through but maintains its flavors of spice and sweetness.
