This is hard. I want to like this one but I can’t. Nose is caramel and leather. In the mouth smooth, but the taste is rotting leather. The pear goes right to bitter until it has had a lot of time to open up. The finish is short and mildly unpleasant.
About this bottle
Leopold Bros. Distillery is located in Denver, Colorado. They ferment their American Small Batch Whiskey mash in the traditional sour-mash method, utilizing a mashbill of corn, rye and barley. It is barreled in charred American white oak at pre-Prohibition standard 98-proof. This whiskey, which was first released in 2010, is still bottled at 86 proof and bares no age statement.

Very subtle flavoring, possibly too subtle. Chocolate after-taste is pleasant, very light butterscotch on the tongue. I can't stress enough how light these flavors are. Could be disappointing to some, but it's easy enough to drink.
Very strong grassy/wheat scent on the nose. Very complex flavor. Grassy, sweet, oily, rich, and bitter. Surprisingly smooth. Nice fire in the belly. Sightly bitter aftertaste.
Had the Georgia Peach whiskey- tastes like a really strong dessert wine, a heavy sweet port- It was okay, not really a favorite but cute to try.
Grassy, bready, unique. Didnt like this when i was just starting out with whiskey, but loving it now due to its nuance and uniqueness.
Sweet, grassy, very young. Not my jam, not at all. Actually prefer their peach flavored bottle (off the beaten path).
