There is a rather new Macallan collection. It is the number 126 released this month, lol. No, really, Macallan has been releasing lots of new expressions in the past five years, i can bet they have made more whiskies than any other distillery out there. The Harmony Collection is actually an environmental-friendly group of bottlings, with boxes and labels made from recycled cocoa & coffee husks. This is my third review from this releases, the Macallan Rich Cacao. This has been made with a collaboration of Jordi Roca, a famous pastry chef who have won a Michelin Star. Bottled at 44%abv. On the nose, lots of sherry influence. Cherries, red fruits, hazelnut and milk chocolate formula. Strawberries, red berries, chocolate. After some sips, the aroma gave me cinnamon and clove. On the palate, it is good, but nothing too special. Red fruits, hazelnuts and almonds. Dim dark chocolate. After the first sip it changed into maraschino cherries and tiramisú dessert. Aftertaste is spicy and slightly better. Salt, ginger, bitter dark chocolate and macerated fruit liquor. Overall, this is an above average whisky, but as most Macallans, it is better for you to buy it and not drinking it, since it gains value like crazy for a "juice" that is a little mediocre. It is even crazier that this statement is not so controversial nowadays. Most people know that lately Macallan has been releasing "sub-par" single malts that are easy to drink and that might please a group of fans of the brand but it has become increasingly difficult to impress other whisky enthusiasts. My score for this one is 88 over 100, which is not bad, but also gives you the impression that you can have better single malts for less price.
About this bottle
This is the first limited edition whisky of a new series of single malts from The Macallan that showcase new whisky innovations in sustainable packaging made with repurposed natural materials. To create it, The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan visited Girona, Spain, where she was inspired by chocolate production. The whisky combines liquid from a combination of European and American oak casks to bring forth chocolate flavor profiles. It is presented in a fully recyclable and biodegradable box that is made with natural by-products in the chocolate-making process, such as discarded husks from cocoa pods. The whisky is bottled at 44% ABV and available in limited quantities as of October, 2021.

It was good Not great Sherry on the nose I personally like a sherry finish forward scotch and that did not carry forward as I would have liked it to into the palate and finish The chocolate was not very obvious in my opinion - rather faint For a true chocolate forward pour I enjoy Bourbon county Stout There was plenty of fruit and balance Nothing here that knocked my socks off as was imagining/ hoping for a more pronounced sherry/ chocolate profile...therefore for me falls slightly short 3.75/ 5 is too low 4/5 might be too high There is no option for in between so by default = a 4/5
Picked up two bottle and was lucky to find them. The place had only gotten 10. It’s one of the better limited runs macallan has offered in recent years. The chocolate is there from the start to the finish, it’s spicy yet not over powering and finishes smooth. I see this being a collectors item so if you find one get two. I would not pay more than $200 for this and I believe it’s already being sold for $300 plus as the amount bottled is unknown but clearly limited so that price will be on the rise. Enjoy!!
One of the best Macallan to be released in quite some time. Addictive and delicious. Strong notes of very dark chocolate, dates, roasted nuts, caramel and light vanilla. To be enjoyed neat with dark chocolate. Nevertheless a little chilled water will open up honey notes and bring a lighter profile. An absolute recommendation for whisky connoisseurs or early discoverers
Chocolate and more chocolate! Fudge, plum, dark chocolate entwined in a burst of rich decadence. Not overly complex, but very well done for what it is, a sweet indulgence. Reminds me of JW Platinum but better. I wish the finish were a little longer to enjoy and savor. A fantastic dessert dram.
You can definitely taste the cacao instantly! On the nose is sherry, floral notes, almost a hint of moss, ripe apple, and definitely the cacao. On the palate it cream, honey, and cacao, definitely sweet but not fruity. The finish lingers, there’s certainly an oily quality to it.
