It's very fruity, woody, old, sweet, and spicy. It's a lot like Delord 1981. There's some solid complexity, but to could use some more. It's rich enough but I wish that the flavor were more full. I love the plentiful age though. The caramel and toffee are nice though perhaps a bit on the sweet side. The chocolate is good too. The molasses and brown sugar enhance the age. The vanilla is delightfully strong and the tartness is enough to balance it but not rye flavored.
About this bottle
The house of Delord bottles their armagnac under two labels to honor different sides of their family: Delord, their grandfather, the first distiller of the family, and Marie Duffau, their grandmother, the owner of the vineyards. Each generation of the family has kept the tradition of armagnac distillation alive since 1893. This vintage bottling of Marie Duffau was distilled in 1979, and it is a combination of all four varietals permitted for armagnac. The fields of the family are split 70% to ugni blanc, 20% to baco blanc, 5% to colombard, and 5% to folle blanche. The distillation is down slowly at a lower temperature than other armagnac producers. Bottled at 43% ABV.
