About this bottle

This sherry cask finished whisky (McConnell's spells it without the "e") is the second release for the brand since it was reintroduced in 2020. Aged for 5 years, the blend is initially aged in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and then is finished in oloroso sherry casks. It's bottled without chill-filtration at 46% ABV and was launched in the US in June 2022.

Visual: Amber Colour. Slow, evenly-spaced legs. Nosing: sweet, fruity, and floral. Some cinnamon and toasted oak. Sweet, light toffee hits the back of the nostrils. Candied fruits. Tasting: sweet and fruity. Good body; medium finish. Oak on the back end; dry at the back of the tongue. A bit young and hot, akin to rum. Spicy. Reduced Nosing: vanilla and honey come through water is added. Tinned/jarred pear also comes through. Oak lessens. Reduced Tasting: With added water, ethanol "flavour" comes through; burn lessens. Vague fruitiness and vanilla. Not as good as I first thought; however, for a young spirit, it does have quite a bit of tenacity to it!

Blind whiskey night tasting. Couldn’t identify it as an Irish whiskey. Would’ve guessed something Canadian. Maple syrup and bitter chocolate on the finish.

More depth of flavor then their other offerings. Still easy drinking, smooth, etc, with a bit more “spice” on the tongue.

Fruit note definitely comes through from the Sherry. It's bright and has a sweet note. Almost maple blueberry pancake.
