About this bottle

First launched in 2021, Nikka's limited edition Discovery Series explores various whisky-making production techniques the brand has practiced over the years. For 2022 Nikka has released a pair of whiskies which focuses on the unique aromas generated by yeast from their two distilleries, Yoichi and Miyagikyo. Each whisky is made using rare, experimental batches from its culture collection. Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast is bottled without chill-filtration at 47% ABV. Just 2,640 bottles of both expressions are available in the US beginning October 24, 2022. (SRP $274.99)

Has lots of elements of the 40 year old miyagikyo batch with notes of peaches and apricots in a more balanced and refined way, liked this even more than the yoichi. Nose: Peaches, White Chocolate, Strawberries, Vanilla, Marshmallows, Bubble Gum, Honey, Apricots, Almonds, Whipped Cream, Orange Peels Palate: White Chocolate, Strawberries, Apricots, Bubble Gum, Honey, Pineapples, Luxardo Cherries, Sultanas, Sandalwood, Almonds, Roses Finish: Apricots, Peaches, Honey, Fig Syrup, Luxardo Cherries, Bubble Gum, Strawberries, Almonds, Marshmallows

GoodSpiritsNews 4.8

The nose is even more fruit forward than the Yoichi expression. Think stone fruit, almond, strawberry, and mincemeat pie. The peat here is used to balance the effect and give the overall spirit a darker penumbra. The flavor follows through with these characteristics, adding a peppery, woody and peaty fruit compote finish. This whisky is less subtle than the Yoichi, but nearly as elegant. The addition to the blend of heavier peated whisky adds a more toothsome approach.

Some of the best finishing aroma I’ve ever had, it’s sweet, floral, and milky. Definitely prefer this over the Yoichi aromatic yeast.

Wow, really explosive, lots of taste (maybe after 2 mild burbons…?) nice palate - sharp finish that tapers off

Floral sake-like aromas on the nose. Subtle palate with very enjoyable light aromas
