About this bottle

Released annually to celebrate the birthday of Old Forester founder George Garvin Brown on September 2, Birthday Bourbon is a vintage-dated, one-of-a-kind bourbon selected from barrels made on one day of production. Aged 12 years and bottled at 107 proof, a total of 209 barrels were selected for this year's edition. Once again, the brand is holding an online lottery on its website from August 15-21, 2024 for the opportunity to purchase a bottle. Winners will have to pick up the bottle at distillery in Louisville. It's also available at select retailers nationwide beginning September 2024. (SRP $199.99)

I was one of the lucky winners! Nose: delightfully sweet. Absolutely get the honey and brown sugar. I also get a candy corn The flavor is not as sweet as the smell, but starts off with some burnt caramel and vanilla quickly followed by plenty of oak, leather, and coffee or a real dark tea. There is a bit of a floral note that might make me think more of tea. Theres a little bit of that brown sugar and dare I say banana at the end. Finish is moderate with more oak that what I had expected from previous reviews. Drinks very smooth for 107, which shouldnt be a surprise at age. Shameless plug, if you are at the distillery, get the modjeskas. These are my favorite chocolates at any of the the distilleries and chased this pour extremely well!

Nose - Banana bread, toffee crunch, theres some lemon zest like a lemon bar, lots if baking goods, a dash if baking spice to top it. Palate - More of that toffee, like a toffee cake with cinnamon that lays over a top of icing. Theres more of that lemon bar that comes through. Finish - Light, some baking spice and vanilla icing.

Harris Wood 4.8

Full bodied and powerful. Rich and sweet with caramel and dried fruit. Just enough heat to tell you its real bourbon, but still sippable neat.

NickatNite 4.5

Caramel, vanilla, and oak like typical great bourbon madh bill. Finish has just a little bit of spice but great pour and easy sipper neat

Econosam 4.5

Definitely has a birthday cake flavour and a bit of oakyness. Almost a wine finish.
