If you enjoy actual rum, y'know, the kind that tastes like rum, avoid this synthetic chocolate tasting concoction. A hydrometer test revealed about 20g/litre of sugar, which handily explained the sickly sweet nose and flavour. By rights, it should be labelled a spiced rum.
About this bottle
There’s no shortage of Cuban-style, Panamanian rums available from PILSA, but the Panamonte brand was among the first to arrive on the market. The Panama Red expression is the (slightly) overproof entry into their lineup. Although no age statement is given on the bottle, reports have it as a blend of rums up to five years, aged in ex-bourbon casks. Note: This is not currently available in the U.S.

Yes, it's sweetened. So are many rums that cost multiples of this. It takes water well and in the mid-40's ABV is delicious with a viscous mouthfeel and no harsh finish. When I realized I enjoy it as much as others I own costing 2-2.5 times as much I bought a case!
Strong rum but good
