About this bottle

Patrón XO Cafe is a coffee liqueur made with Patrón Silver, a 100% blue agave tequila, and Arabica coffee beans sourced from Veracruz and Chiapas. Typically, neutral spirits or rum are used when making coffee liqueurs. It is bottled at 35% ABV. Note: In October 2021, Patrón announced it was discontinuing this product to focus on its core tequila line and other super and ultra-premium offerings. However, the brand has re-released the product for a one-time limited nationwide release as of April 2024. (SRP $42.99)

Appearance: Dark mahogany/burnt sienna. Opaque. Aroma: A mild coffee aroma similar to that of drip-filter black coffee. An odd overtone of alcohol with an oily component. Flavour and Texture: Thick, syrupy and very sweet on the arrival. Sugar was the first thing I tasted. That was followed by a mild black coffee flavour and then a subtle note of alcohol that is quickly identified as tequila, but although it's obvious, it's not intrusive or out of place. The finish is fairly long and the tequila presence lasts. This is amazingly sweet and syrupy - I mean *really* sweet. It tasted to me like a cup of generic black coffee with about 10 teaspoons of white sugar and a dash of tequila added. For my palate it is way over the top in sweetness. Also, although tequila works in this context and is not unpleasant I much prefer rum, cognac or neutral spirit as a base for a coffee liqueur. That's not a criticism of the drink per se, just my taste preference, and although I've tried to be objective there is something about this liqueur that does not appeal to me. The many elephants in the room are, of course, the other coffee liqueurs that have appeared over the last few years and which are around the same price but considerably superior to this one. Tasted from a distillery-issued 50ml miniature. "Adequate" : 70/100 (2.25 stars

I’ve been trying to get into liquors more lately. I was highly skeptical of a coffee liquor that uses tequila as it’s base. I was presently surprised. Roasted coffee, mild chocolate, and sugar notes are presented to the nose. This liquor uses patron silver as its base and I was shocked to find a perfect and complimentary balance between the tequila and the roasted coffee flavors. On the second taste I could taste mild chocolate and strong black coffee notes with sweet notes like Werther’s Original coffee toffee flavor on the front of the tongue. The taste finished with a strong tequila flavor on the back of the tongue in a way that is satisfying and reminds you that this is Patron. This liquor is delicious and has a light to medium mouth feel that isn’t as heavy as other cream-based coffee liquors. Worth a try and perfect to pair with a more robust flavored cigar!

Espresso and grape juice on the nose. Palate is a very sweet and enjoyable coffee liqueur with some amaretto and brown sugar. The tequila is mostly hidden behind the espresso but you can still find hints of it. This is a very enjoyable after dinner drink, especially for lovers of Cuban cafe.

Strong , fresh, dark coffee beans on the nose, with just a hint of tequila. On the pallet it is a glorious black coffee flavor, some vanilla, with a significant tequila flavor near the end. Quite balanced between bitter & sweet. Very thick, & liqueur sweetness. Short finish.

Coffee obviously. But dark chocolate too. I got nuts. Burnt almonds. Touches of dark cherries. Vanilla danced around the finish but ultimately left my mind on the sweet coffee and made me think I might not sleep tonight.

Tequila with a strong coffee flavor... Yes please! Enjoying it on the rocks. Can't wait to try it as the kahlua in a "white mexican"?! lol
