A rich, 'VSOP Grande Champagne Cognac by Paul & his wife Denise in Cognac, France made with Ugni Blanc & a tiny fraction of Colombard grapes, all grown within the majestic family vineyards & aged in new & seasoned French barrique. It has an aromatic birth with notes of dried fruits, Cedar, white flowers, grapes, fig, vanilla & a hint of toast; while a rich life adds notes of pear, mango, raisins dusted with brown sugar, honey, caramelized apple; that leads to a long & spicy death with notes of rancio & blood orange. About this bottle
The world's cognac is supplied by the big four producers -- no need to name them, no doubt you’ve at least heard of, if not tasted them. Producers that distill and bottle themselves account for a trickle of the region's production, which makes labels like Paul Beau (which started bottling independently at the end of the 1800s) such an anomaly. Their vineyards are in the heart of Cognac's Grande Champagne region (considered the best of the region). Also notable, this VSOP bottling averages brandies aged 15 years -- quite a leap from the required 4 years.

My first sample of Cognac. Very nice in the glass, a nice medium amber. Leaves thin weak legs. The nose is surprisingly pleasant with notes of barley, fruit, and vanilla; somewhat whiskey like. The palate is completely different: it has a dry wine character (duh!) very unlike whiskey’s sweetness. Lots of fruit - grapes, berries, and mango, but little to no sweetness. The finish is fairly long with biscuits and dry fruit. For my first foray into cognac, it’s pretty good, especially coming from whiskey. 4/5. Cheers!
Smells almost like a candied orange. Orange on the palate too, but also retains much of the grape flavor as well as subtler notes or vanilla and salt. Starts a bit hot and there’s a disappointingly short finish, but overall a very impressive producer Cognac.
Sweet, started off with very strong over ripe grapes flavours, followed by dried mango, and then some leafy, bitter orange and oaky notes. An elegant and relatively light cognac.
Delicious, light, refreshing. Like an amplified white wine, with hints of fig and pear with a kiss of pepper. Lingers beautifully in the mouth
