About this bottle

Paul Sutton Bourbon was founded by Myra Barginear, who sought to recreate a family legacy of bourbon production stretching back a century to her grandfather R.M. Sutton. The Kentucky straight bourbon features rye as its flavor grain and is made using a sweet mash. It's matured in toasted, #4 char barrels. Single barrel releases bottled at 100 proof are being launched spring 2021. This review is from barrel #113, and has been matured for five years.

Roxanne: I couldn’t quite put my finger on the scent of this, however I figured it out and it smells like a car wash. Another sniff reminds me of a car wash that’s operated by heavy chain-smokers. Upon my first serve, I didn’t feel there was anything on the pallet but there definitely was a burning in my nose. Second step, because you know you have to get used to it, and I’m pretty sure I have lung cancer and I’ve never smoked. It went up my nose and made me shake my head to try and dissipate the burn. Needless to say, this gem is going into the “guest” section of our liquor cabinet (a.k.a. bourbon we think tastes like ass). This section is ‘special’ as we will bring it out only on ‘special’ occasions, like when we have no bourbon for other people to drink - it’s a win win - we get host points because they feel ‘special’ and we keep the actually good stuff for us. #winning Tom: We’ve been watching this vampire show on Hulu. Its kind of dark all the time (they are vampires, after all) and they all live in this old house on Staten Island. There are old things throughout the house, bats and an occasional dead body. This whiskey tastes like I image their basement smells. Bat piss, dead body and old furniture…pretty much sums it up.

Leroy Johnson 4.5

Nose: off a fresh crack I got a very muted profile. I let it sit and just got brown sugar. Palate: this is where this dram shines. Tobacco, leather, vanilla and cinnamon candy shell. It’s 58.7 proof and drinks like 90 proof. Outstanding Finish: slight Kentucky hug. Lingers shortly and then it’s gone. Overall: my bottle is a liquor king DFW store pick. So it’s more than likely a bit tastier. I’m very happy with this expression.

Spirited Away 4.3

I received this bottle as a xmas gift from my brother in law. I must say this wasn't too shabby at all. The nose put forth a strong rye spice and caramel character. The taste had a fairly potent mix of corn bread, crushed nuts, leather, and oak that seemed to pop at various times throughout the sipping process. The proof provided a nice warm hug during the finish.

ngentry20 4.0

Solid bourbon. Sweet vanilla, oak, medium bodied and long gradual spicy finish. Seems like a good balance between the 86/90 proof bourbons and the newer barrel strength.

ngentry20 4.3

A little different. Sweet fruit, oak, and caramel on nose. Caramel, full body feel, spicy finish. There is something I can’t place on flavor as well.

cbillas 4.3

Full bodied. Has a sweet, brown sugar taste with a long finish
