"Port Charlotte" 10 Years Old — шотландский односолодовый виски с фенольностью 40 ppm, демонстрирующий сочетание цветочной элегантности Брукладди с тяжелыми торфяными нотами.
Heard of this brand in a cool documentary called Water of Life. Excellent dram! I had a couple of sips before making my review. Although a non-chill filtered, it’s a light yellow colored with thin legs. With 50% ABV, I was expecting thicker legs. On the nose, a roast brine come forward immediately with an applewood smoked bacon in it and a hint of medicinal smell on the back end. After some drops of water, hints of orange and lime come up with the smokiness. On the palate is smoky. The citric notes come along the pitey notes. There’s also a BBQ burnt end taste to it, mostly a brisket fat type. It’s more salty than sweet, but the sweetness comes lightly in form of sugar cane distilled cachaça. Very good overall with a lasting finish more on the citric smoky side. Awesome whisky, delicious and fulfilling!
NEAT NOSE - An explosion of citrus. Lemon > Orange Zest, but both are present along with hay, slight honey and vanilla. The peat is not sweet, but reminiscent of campfire ash. PALATE - Again, loads of lemon zest that leads to orange peel. The honey and vanilla is present on the mid palate but is quickly drowned out by a campfire ash like peat. There is also some ginger. The mouthfeel is silky with a bit of weight to it. FINISH - For the finish, the honey and vanilla make a return, but only for a short while. BUY? Yes. It’s a great introduction to peated whisky. I believe it’s extremely well rounded. BUY AGAIN? - Yes. It’s not simple, nor terribly complex. However, it’s enjoyable for what it is.
Nose: sea spray, a brighter character peat, vanilla, orange peel, cereal / malt. Hints of the French wine cask spiciness here. There is an oak/wood varnish/paint thinner note. Beach bonfire. Palate: robust and deep, yet relatively bright. Prominent citrus, a strong salinity, with a backing of warming baking spice as it transitions to finish. Vanilla, limoncello, salted caramels. It is obviously peaty however, the other notes are very well balanced with it. It comes out most towards the finish. Finish: heat builds in the back of the throat, peat lingers, baking spice and oak tannin rest well in the mouth
Nose: moderate smoke and dank peat, but theres a lot more sweetness here than I remember. Creamy Vanilla, orange peel, sweet oak. Salt spray, seaweed Palate: malty sweetness, moderate heat, floral and fruity. Peat reek is there but balanced against a bright zip of citrus and citrus peel. creamy mouthfeel. Splash of seawater as it transitions to the finish. Finish: lingering, here's where the peat phenols come out some more. a little oily and numbing medicinal element on the tongue, substantial oak tannins here. strong leather.
