Quite disappointed with this whiskey. I absolutely love Islay, heavily peated whiskey like Laphroaig, Ardbeg, LagavuLin. Unfortunately this whiskey doesn't make the cut into permanent rotation. Very young and fiery that is truly relentless. Even with water it just doesn't open up or tame itself. In my opinion it's just straightforward alcohol, ton of peat and spice but lacking balance to make it enjoyable.
About this bottle
This particular bottle is a blend of multiple vintages, and is even more peated than their Heavily Peated bottling (44 ppm vs 40 ppm respectively). What I do find is an extreme abundance of baking spices that might take over the palate if the smoke and peat were not there to lift them off. All this shows just how good their Master Blender Jim McEwan is at his job. The casks picked for this particular bottling have done well at balancing the floral elements in a heavily peated whisky.

The nose has Smoked meats, sandalwood, mango, apricot, and funky shoe polish. The palate is amazing, with the BBQ meats, smoke, brine, cinnamon, ginger, charred cedar, coal, pinesap, and the pepper finish that lingers!
Very smoky without overpowering the other much more subtle aromatic flavours. Very well balanced while remaining on the smoky peaty side. I like!
I'm always wanted this bottle for its heavily peated style and it really not let me down. If you like the Kilchoman you will also gonna love this.
Very nice nose, with a peaty and floral palate. The finish tapers off very quickly, with some hint of tobacco.
Smoky!!! Similar but maybe slightly less behind that smoke than ardbeg Uigeadial
