About this bottle

Rhum J.M. Blanc is produced from estate-grown cane harvested each spring after a full year's growth. Within an hour of harvest, the brand has fresh-pressed sugarcane juice which is then allowed to undergo a natural fermentation for 36-48 hours. The fermented juice is distilled in a Créole copper column still to 70% ABV after which the rum is rested for at least three months in stainless tanks. It is then reduced to bottle-strength with volcanic, mineral water sourced from the estate. This 110 proof version was released in July 2019 and sold in liter-sized bottles.

It smells grassy and vegetal with a squash sweetness. The nose is surprisingly strong and piercing. The flavor is grassy but also sweet and vegetal with a squash and brown sugar note mixed with gross bread. It's quite a bit like grappa. The alcohol burn is there, but not excessive and there is some alcohol bitterness, but it's well under control. If you like these flavors, the balance is good and the bitterness is present but under control. There are hints of citrus, but they are well managed. It's very interesting, but just isn't my thing. It's super funky with some interesting sugar water flavor that validates its assertion of being rhum agricole. There's some odd red bell pepper flavor that is kind of interesting. It's a little oily, but not too much.
