Clear. Boisterous and inviting aromas of under-ripe pineapple, mango, powdered sugar, dehydrated strawberry, orange oil, sour cherry, cacao, and white pepper. Moderately oily in texture for only 80 proof. Many of the tropical notes from the nose morph into more vegetal, evergreen, and mint notes on the palate; but the spirit retains a pleasant fruitiness throughout. The finish is all bubblegum with a few Topps baseball cards thrown in. At just $30/liter, this is easy to like. Especially if you enjoy kirshwasser and collecting sports memorabilia from the early digital age.
About this bottle
Rhum J.M. Blanc is produced from estate-grown cane harvested each spring after a full year's growth. Within an hour of harvest, the brand has fresh-pressed sugarcane juice which is then allowed to undergo a natural fermentation for 36-48 hours. The fermented juice is distilled in a Créole copper column still to 70% ABV after which the rum is rested for at least three months in stainless tanks. It is then reduced to bottle-strength with volcanic, mineral water sourced from the estate.

The cool funkiness presents itself on the nose as raw corn on the cob with its silk, almost juicier than molasses based counterparts. The flavor is anise forward finishing with menthol and a certain je ne sais quoi weirdness that sometimes tastes like the scent of gasoline and sometimes the scent of a foam pool floatie. Long spicy finish!
Not at all bad. More herbal than you would expect from a rum but in a very pleasant way. Makes me want to explore more aged rhum agricole options.
Green. Grassy, vegetal—bell pepper. Sweet mint. Cucumbery. Very grassy. Lingering sweetness.
