About this bottle

Ron Barcelo uses 100% Dominican sugar cane juice for their distillation. Their hot, humid environs produce rapid aging results, which they complete almost entirely in used American bourbon barrels. In between uses, they scrape and re-char those barrels to always impart their desired flavor qualities. The Gran Añejo includes a blend of rums aged up to six years. This is sold at 40% abv in the US, but this review was done with the 37.5% abv bottling sold elsewhere.

Bouteille de la "Dark Series" achetée à Boca Chica, Rem. Dom. Couleur ambrée un peu pâle. Arômes de canne à sucre mais également caramel et vanille venant du fût de bourbon. Noisettes en arrière-plan, quelques petits fruits séchés, eau d'érable et alcool très doux. Vraiment bien. En bouche, belle démonstration entre le rhum et le fût de bourbon, sucré et vanillée, très doux même si on ressent le côté corsé du whisky, encore quelques baies comme au nez, noix, érable. L'alcool se pointe brièvement en début de gorgée mais s'efface rapidement. Texture qui manque un peu de finition mais bien dans l'ensemble. Un excellent rhum d'entrée de gamme.

Very decent, very smooth rum, with wide sugary sweetness and body with hints of coffee and sweet spice. It has very slight after taste burn. I recommend this one as good bargain with high benefit cost. It's very drinkable rum, decent mixer and simple sipper (with no distinctive or surprising taste, however).

Golden color rum. Oak, vanilla, orange and light spice notes on the nose. Brown sugar, Orange and spice continues on the pallet. Finish is sweet but nice. Another good mixing rum, but a nice easy sipper.
