Do you enjoy a smooth, high proof rye? If so, this is not for you. It’s right there on the label: rough. Somehow they’ve managed to capture the flavors, smells, and rage from the Long Island experience and put it in a bottle.
About this bottle
The Rough Riders were the first Volunteer Calvary of the United States, led by Teddy Roosevelt during the Spanish-American war in 1898. Rough Rider "The Big Stick," from Long Island Spirits, is a rye whiskey distilled from a mash of 95% Long Island-grown winter rye and 5% malted barley. Champagne yeast is used during its 8-11 day fermentation period. After double-distillation, the whiskey ages for at least a year in 30 gallon barrels made from new American oak. It's bottled at cask strength. Although produced in the US, the label spells "whisky" without the "e."

Rare to find a good cask strength rye, especially one not distilled at MGP. Even though it’s 120 proof, there’s really not much of a hug. Flavors are abundant
[Whiskey Live NY 2018] - LIS has been putting out some fun drams over the years, but this is not one of them!
Big stick indeed! Fiery rye spice and pairs phenomenally with TR on The History Channel :)
Vanilla and Caramel on the nose. Spicy on the back end with lingering spicy notes
for me easily one of the best rye available in the u.s.
