The nose starts off with floral rice spice with earthy undertones. Fresh oak wraps it all up, those few things alone really highlight this Maryland style of rye. There are smoother notes of vanilla, a bit of brown sugar and hints of caramel. It is delightfully refreshing and gives the impression of being a rich and juicy whiskey. The palate is gently coated in floral rice spice, before unleashing a chewy wave of peppery spice, as oak and vanilla arrive in the background to offer a nice balance in presence as you continue to chew. The unique style of Maryland rye is really an experience here as if showcases the wonderful blend of spice and smoothness that this style is known for. It drinks exceptionally easily, while offering a great flavor profile without being either too simple or too complicated. The finish is long and rather mild while still offering sensations of spice and chewy oak and vanilla. It is a wonderful aftertaste and immediately after the first sip you are already looking forward to the next sip.
