Aroma opens with rye spice, vanilla creme, shortbread, white pepper, candy cane, apricot, fresh leather, grass, dried plum, tobacco, and oak. An inviting and complex nose for sure. Ethanol is low. Palate offers raisin, date, caramel, fig newton, smoke, prune, and macadamia nut. Flavors are rich but with some delicacy to them; kind of like a soufflé. Finish is delightful; on the longer side of medium with figgy pudding, chocolate, black, pepper, herbal mint, toasted oak and coconut, caraway seed, and dried black cherry. Mouthfeel is full bodied with a soft, velvety texture but does turn a bit dry at the end. Yeah, this is delicious. I will admit that for the first few drams after opening I felt this was a bit tight and that the sherry/rye flavors were a bit clashy, but as more air got to the bottle it opened up and became more cohesive. A bold, innovative, and weird whiskey that somehow still works. I paid $99.99 via mail order and while I’d always like to pay less, I feel this is appropriately priced for the quality. Nicely done, Sagamore.

Aroma - digging it. Lots of dark cherries mixed with bubblegum… some chocolate and lots of brown sugar up front. As it opens up, the rye really shines through adding a ton more complexity. Really great balance here. Taste - First thing that jumps out at me is the balance of this. It really is a terrific blend of the rye spices (cinnamon with slight hint of mint) up front then the finish is tons of daek cherries and chocolate. Every once in a while the rye spice sneaks back in on the finish but it mostly at the front of the palate. Overall - it’s another amazing offering by Sagamore. I do wish it was slightly more viscous and coated the mouth a bit more. The finish isn’t as long as I was hoping for.
This has a wonderful PX sherry profile on the nose of raisins, figs, sticky sweetness that showcases the Sagamore rye profile after letting it sit for a short while or some swirling in your glencairn. The palate is PX sherry in the beginning that transitions to a gentle rye towards the middle and end. This has to be my favorite finished rye whiskey. Definitely recommend.
Raisin and cherry are clear on the nose. I’d guess i was drinking brandy if i didn’t know better, although there is that telltale rye tickle. Palate is rich, dark and fruity like a Manhattan cocktail. Cherry, plum, cocoa, vanilla and oak. Angostura and orange may be imagined…spicy tannic finish. Who needs a cocktail when you’ve got this.
On the nose heavy dark rich apple, followed by sweet dark fruit. On the palate the dark apple flavor is first. Followed by the rye spice but more gentle than some ryes. Then the mint comes in and is still subtle no over powering. It feels like a perfect balance of the sherry finish but doesn’t outshine the rye.
Nose: ethanol, brown sugar, fig Palate: syrupy, orange, almond, more fig. Nice river kick Finish: long and lingering. Oak and cocoa Final Thoughts: better than I expected. Similar to MWND but more acidity from the sherry. Finish is the winner here, very long and strong Rating: 8 on the t8ke scale
