AnttiRG 3.5

A complex, Blended Irish Whiskey by Slane Distillery in Boyne Valley, Ireland matured & blended from Virgin American Oak, Aged Bourbon Oak & Spanish Oloroso Sherry Casks. It has an aromatic birth with notes of freshly baked cinnamon rolls with a hint of orange zest, sweet oak, toasted barley, caramel & ginger; while a rich & bold life adds notes of Victoria Sponge Cake with plenty of jam & cream in the middle, along with a hint of butterscotch; that leads to a balanced death of medium length with notes of honey on burnt toast with a hint of spices. October 2020 / July 2022

Triple casked in virgin oak, (once?) used bourbon, and used Olorosa sherry casks. The nose says "Irish", but the first taste says "bourbon". Sweet, butterscotch, vanilla, caramel, ginger, spice. A little water brings out the oak and some burnt toast and pumpkin pie. Spice all the way through and sherry notes on the finish. I suspect the bourbon barrels were only once used and the Devil lost his cut to the bottle. There is probably quite a bit of single grain corn in the blend as well. A solid Irish whiskey for the price.

The barley is strong with this one, making it reminiscent of scotch. Apparently the distillery is located inside of a castle, and the surrounding area is used as farmland, which is where they grow their own barley. That definitely comes through in this whiskey. Goes fantastically well with tortilla Chips and homemade guacamole. If you are celebrating an Irish holiday, and you drink this right after a little Jameson’s, you’ll notice this has a lot more flavor, and a bit more bite. Slainte!

Vanilla and flaky croissant on the nose. Floral and mild ethanol. Light body, floral vanilla, soft cereal, and maple notes in the mouth. Burst of ethanol, oat, and grassy spice in a short finish. Kinda a one note floral Irish whiskey, soft, thin, easy to drink. With an ice cube it flattens even more, and more floral sweetness emerges in the finish. Nice to sip, no struggle there. I can see this making a nice Whiskey Highball, like one made with a Japanese whisky.

A pretty average whiskey. Light, but still drinkable. The nose has some floral notes with honey and apple. The flavor profile is a bit better, honey with some apple and spice. The floral nature isnt present on the palate. I dont care much for Irish whiskey, so you can take this with a grain of salt.

Quite young and fresh. Starts off with the usual Irish whiskey notes like buttery shortbread, then the Sherry kicks in with a bunch of sweet, fruitiness. Not much of a finish but for the money this is certainly above average in the budget Irish range.
