About this bottle

It is said that William Teacher would not give his name to his blend until he had found perfection. Highland Cream was that whisky. At 45% it has one of the highest single malt contents of any blend and uses fully peated Ardmore whisky as it's fingerprint malt. The combination is incredible depth and smoothness combined with a rich smokey undertones.

Danksy 3.3

Excellent value peated blend. Nose: Smoke, grain and peated Highland malt. Not much else there unless you've got a great imagination. At least it's not too grainy, which is great for such a budget. Taste: Peated malt wrestles with young grain to convince you this is a quality blend. It's a fair contest and the result is quite positive. I have nothing bad to say about this palette, especially at this price. Finish: Expectedly short, peaty, dry and bitter, probably from charred barrels. Once again, a fair finish for its class. Final thoughts: if you're looking to get into peat on a budget then there's not much choice out there. This whisky is indeed a fair choice, but don't expect any miracles from it. It showcases only the classic Highland peated malt, so for those looking to get acquainted with Islands or Islay, look elsewhere and be prepared to shell out a bit more resources for a significantly more interesting experience.

Nose: light, a little touch of alcohol upfront but manageable, hint of a simple malted grain note somewhat like granola, touch of honey, butterscotch, a little fruitiness, hint of vanilla, maybes a lemon or orange zest note, faint ghostly hint of sea salt air and peat but is a little hard to find. Taste: light and very easy going, honey, fruit, touch of creaminess, ashy peat smoke but not strong and overpowering, some barrel spices, finish is medium leaning more on the shorter side. For the price, this is honestly very good. If the noise and flavors were a little stronger, this would be a really decent sleeper scotch. Give it a try, it’s worth a look for under $20.

Teacher's Highland Cream is a rotgut Scotch blend now. Aromas of cheap grain quality chemical artificial grain whisky with a faint hint of iodine and toffee greet the nose. The entry is oversweet neutral grain spirits with a palate of oversweet neutral grain spirits. The finish is a long ashtray taste with a hint of spice and tainted with a chemical flavor resembling men's cheap cologne. This is on the level of the cheapest bottom shelf but at twice the price. Suntory Beam has made a big mistake. Teacher's Highland Cream is the new Schlitz Beer fiasco. It will never recover from this downgrade just like Schlitz beer didn't.

Overall: Pretty disgusting! Reminds me of the taste of very cheap “cigars” you may buy at corner shops and petrol stations in some countries. The aftertaste lingers. Not easy to describe. In my imagination chewing cigarette butts from an ashtray that has been sitting there for a long time should come pretty close. Even after brushing you teeth you can’t get rid of that awful aftertaste! Tried to give it 0 stars but can’t. So 0.25 it is … because it contains alcohol… A much better option is Black & White (closer to Jameson, plus a bit of a smokey taste).

Neck Pro 3.8

As of right now my favorite budget scotch. Got an entire handle for $23.99. Sweet butter, butterscotch, a bit of peat and a hint of smoke, some maltiness, some light fruitiness, and some grain whisky burn/ethanol note coming in. Taste follows through with a decent mouthfeel and a bit of oilyness along with a added hint of spice. Mid palate there is some fresh rubber and ends quick and fairly clean. Not perfect but incredible for the price. I mix with it and will have it neat when I'm craving scotch and just want something cheap.
