About this bottle

The name "Glenlivet" had become synonymous with "quality" and would be used by others producing whisky despite how far away from the Livet Glen. In fact, the owner had to apply for sole rights to the name which were finally granted in 1884. To this day, the name crops up on other independent bottlings, but must be hyphenated. No other whisky can be called "The Glenlivet", however. This 18 year bottling is aged in a combination of both American and European oak. Note: Pronounced [glen liv-it]

The nose is light, fruity, and pleasant at first, however, once it opens up more, it becomes more balanced with the same notes, in addition to wood and caramel. The palate is a nice balance of apple, wood, caramel, brown sugar, and fruit. It's certainly a little thin at first, but it is refreshing and drinkable. Again, I highly recommend letting this breath, significantly more so than most scotches, as it will fill out and gain complexity. Fitting for spring or early fall. In particular, I think it's excellent for April, May, and, especially, September.

C: Golden amber N: Pear, apple, barley sugar, P: Sweet, sour, heat, astringent, watery, pear, barley sugar F: Short, hot, astringent This is bottled at an underwhelming 40% ABV and has no info about whether it is natural colored or non chill filtered. Not a bad dram, but very underwhelming and boring especially for an 18 yr. Definitely not worth the price in my opinion. Not planning on buying again unless they improve the presentation, such as bottling it at 46%.

Details: Smoother/mellower than a 15 at twice the price. Tasting Methodology: Neat in a Canadian Glencarin glass. Rested 10 minutes. Nose: green apple peels Mouthfeel: succulent heavy Palate: Too mellow for me to detect. No fruits or relatable note. Finish: radiating warmth Rating: 8/10 Price paid: $150 Value rating: 6/10 Overall Notes: Smooth, slight fruity, sweet neat sipper. Would I get again? Maybe. Smoother/mellower than a 15 at twice the price.

Nose: rich, fruity, ripe baked apples with a hint of dark brown sugar, buttery baked crust, hint of marmalade and vanilla. A very decadent, baked dessert quality to this one. Palate: light oily feel, more baked apple goodness, caramel and toffee, baking spices, toasted oak, and a little smoky barrel char with a somewhat short and fairly dry finish. Just a well balanced, sweet dram of golden delight. Get some and enjoy.

Nose: honey, apple, pear, vanilla, and lemon zest Palate: butterscotch, pear, yellow apple, vanilla, oakiness, a light earthiness, lemon zest, light baking spice, surprisingly chewy for a lower ABV. Finish: more butterscotch and some oak tannins Overall: It’s a sin cutting down the ABV, but man is this still solid classic Speyside

Nose is amazing. Orange peel, elderflower, apricott, and raisins. Mouth would have been a winner if it wasnt so mild. Honey, walnut, apples and citrus peels. Feels super watered down and light. Love the flavours though but want more of everything. Finish is dry, short and fruity. As always im curious about the cask strength here.
