About this bottle

The 2017 limited edition of Walsh Whiskey Distillery's Cask Strength whiskey was bottled in August of that year. It matured in first-fill bourbon barrels and is a blend of single malt and single pot still whiskeys. Released annually, this bottling consists of about 2,000 bottles and are individually numbered and signed by founder Bernard Walsh. Available in select markets and global travel retail accounts. Bottled at 54% ABV.

The Rev

This note is actually for the 2015 release, not 2017. This is good stuff. The usual Irish notes are there - vanilla, apple, toasty bread, a bit of jam - but there is an appealing herbal savoriness to the dram, like fresh sage. For a cask strength whiskey, there is hardly any burn to speak of - a bit of a kick, but nothing too harsh. I continue to be impressed by Walsh Whiskey's output - Writer's Tears and The Irishman line have yet to disappoint. It'll be fun to see what they're able to release as their stock continues to age!

Nose: Sweet, barley, tropical fruit. Palate: Spicy, pepper, chilli, ginger, toasted oak, nuts, baked apple, apricot. Very malty Finish: Medium finish. Pepper, ginger, malt. Spicy and souring on the aftertaste. Sour, malty and spicy. Hints of tropical fruit and nuts. A lot of sour spices on the aftertaste. This doesn't taste it's ABV, but it is still a little too harsh. Generally OK.

Blind tasting Nose: vanilla, bourbon wood, pine Taste: spice, cinnamon, cherry, white grape Wood: Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25 Notes: very nice. Fun mix of flavors and texture. Reminds me of Strathclyde 29 Cadenheads Distillery? Like an old pulteney. Could be grain
