The Senator Barrel Proof Straight Rye Whiskey (Fall 2019)

Nose is subtle for a rye (and a 112 proof), and smells more like a bourbon, with caramel prevailing. The palate definitely gives away that it’s a rye, tasting like baked bread. More interestingly, a strong mint flavor comes in at the end and dominates the finish. Whole lotta mint. Wow. The longer you drink it, the more the mint takes over. After a while, it bears resemblance to toothpaste.

Definitely good. Lots of spice and big Kentucky hug. Expected a bit better balance with more sweetness and better finish. Definitely a slow sipper. There are much better ryes at a lower price point, but still glad to have it in my collection.

So smooth but with a big rye bite. This is my perfect style.! Love this!!!
